Emerlyn Technology has released a new inventory application that allows pharmacists to count and value inventory using OneScan®, a remote bar code scanning system that integrates with SureCost® software to provide an immediate and accurate report on drug product value.
"The majority of pharmacies today use multiple suppliers and need a neutral source for calculating inventory values and providing analysis," said Calvin Hunsicker, president and chief executive officer for Emerlyn Technology, whose SureCost e-procurement tool evaluates drug product from multiple sources for contract pricing, cost, market share, rebates, Medicaid coverage and other factors that give pharmacists affordable control of real-time information for drug purchasing.
"We strive to make the pharmacist's job easier and provide accurate information. This is a cost-effective step to raise the level of best practice in pharmacy spend management," Hunsicker said.
OneScan is a universal, hand-held bar code scanner that recognizes any product no matter the source. After scanning inventory, the tool is placed in its cradle and the counts are downloaded into the SureCost e-procurement software system. The inventory is then valued by using any of the common accounting principles of last purchase price, replacement price or average price. The inventory can be divided into sections and immediate reports are available for spot checks to ensure the integrity of the count was intact.
